چکیده

Non cirrhotic portal fibrosis (NCPF) is a syndrome of obscure etiology, characterized by obliterative portal venopathy leading to portal hypertension, massive splenomegaly and well tolerated episodes of variceal bleeding in young adults, having near normal hepatic function. The lesion in NCPF is generally vascular, present in portal vein, it’s branches or in the presinusoidal area of liver. NCPF is also known by other names like idiopathic portal hypertension, hepatoportal sclerosis, obliterative portal venopathy of the liver and non cirrhotic intrahepatic portal hypertension.

Ultrastructure of the liver in non-cirrhotic portal fibrosis with portal hypertension.

The aetiology of the ultrastructural abnormalities of non-cirrhotic portal fibrosis is not known. In an attempt to elucidate the pathophysiology of this condition, the hepatic ultrastructure in nine cases of non-cirrhotic portal fibrosis with portal hypertension has been studied.

Controlled trial of propranolol to prevent recurrent variceal bleeding in patients with non-cirrhotic portal fibrosis.

Fifty patients with non-cirrhotic portal fibrosis who were admitted to hospital because of upper gastrointestinal bleeding were randomly assigned to treatment with either oral propranolol given in doses that reduced the resting pulse rate by 25% (25 patients) or with a placebo (25 patients). One year after the start of the study 20 patients in the propranolol group and five patients in the plac...

Non-cirrhotic portal fibrosis: current concepts and management.

Non-cirrhotic portal hypertension (NCPH) comprises diseases having an increase in portal pressure (PP) due to intraheptic or prehepatic lesions, in the absence of cirrhosis. The lesions are generally vascular, either in the portal vein, its branches or in the perisinusoidal area. Because the wedged hepatic venous pressure is near normal, measurement of intravariceal or intrasplenic pressure is ...

Variceal pressure is a strong predictor of variceal haemorrhage in patients with cirrhosis as well as in patients with non-cirrhotic portal hypertension.

BACKGROUND Variceal pressure is a strong predictor for a first variceal bleed in patients with cirrhosis. AIMS To evaluate whether variceal pressure is also a determinant of the risk of a first variceal bleed in patients with non-cirrhotic portal hypertension. METHODS Variceal pressure was measured non-invasively in 25 patients with non-cirrhotic portal hypertension and large varices while ...

Anorectal varices--their frequency in cirrhotic and non-cirrhotic portal hypertension.

Anorectal varices in portal hypertension have been little studied: Seventy eight per cent of 72 patients with portal hypertension had anorectal varices shown at flexible sigmoidoscopy. Significantly more patients with noncirrhotic portal hypertension had these varices than patients with cirrhosis (89% v 56%, p less than 0.01).
